Chemotherapy

In our on-site modern Chemotherapy Suite we administer these drugs that are toxic to cancer cells. Chemotherapy drugs can be given by a number of routes including intravenously, under the skin or orally by tablets or capsules.

Cancer cells generally grow very rapidly so most chemotherapy drugs work by damaging these cells so when they divide they die.

Chemotherapy at VRCCChemotherapy is used by our oncology department to treat a number of cancers and how these drugs and which drug are used is dependent on many factors. VRCC’s Head of Oncology is Dr Susan North the most experienced and highly qualified Veterinary Oncologist in Europe.

Chemotherapy is the most effective single treatment for some types of cancer, offering the best opportunity for controlling the cancer (remission) and at the same time ensuring the patient has a good quality of life.

The skill of a veterinary oncologist who has years of experience and training along with the special facilities for the handling and administration of chemotherapy drugs should never be underestimated.
